More recently, on December 2, 2009 the Denver Post published a story regarding loneliness, comparing it to a contagious disease. The Neighborhood Resource Center of Colorado seeks to build community to counteract the negative effects of loneliness.  Someone who is lonely can affect their entire social network negatively.
