GLOSSARY
Aging in Community: Proactive, grassroots initiative that intentionally creates supportive neighborhoods to enhance well-being and quality of life at home and as an integral part of the community for people of all ages, particularly boomers. It is a new model that fosters interdependence with increased opportunities for meaningful connection within one’s community through reciprocal relationships.
Capacity Building: Efforts that assist in developing skills or competence in a particular area, such as public speaking, grant writing, or leadership.
Community: Social group of any size whose members reside in a certain area, share govenment, and share a common historical and/or cultural background.
Mediation: Constructive process to resolve conflicts or disagreements between individuals, groups, or organizations.
Neighborhood: Group of houses immmediately adjoining on one or more sides of a city block.
Resident: One who resides or dwells in a given area.
