Roots to Sustainability

The Neighborhood Resource Center of Colorado is pleased to offer $12,500 in micro-grants to fund earth-friendly projects that build a sense of community.

Grants of up to $250 are available to Colorado residents to encourage our communities to work collectively on projects that lead to greener and more sustainable consumer practices and lifestyles.

The possibilities of projects are endless but ideas include:

  • Starting a block composting project
  • Implementing recycling at schools, community centers, parks or at sporting events
  • Creating a community garden or tool sharing program
  • Organizing community tree plantings;
  • Implementing water-efficient landscaping projects
  • Planning to make your next soccer match or swim meet a zero-waste event,
  • Start a carpool, bike-sharing or lawnmower-sharing program.

In 1992, the UN Conference on Environmental Development declared that the capacity of the earth’s ability to provide resources and handle wastes was fast approaching its limits.  These micro grants can serve as a catalyst for all Coloradans to collaboratively work towards practical activity for to greener and more sustainable consumer practices and lifestyles. To encourage people to work together to create healthier communities, the Neighborhood Resource Center of Colorado with funding from Xcel Energy Foundation is offering 50 micro-grants of up to $250 each to support these projects
